Why “flog” and what does it mean? The word “flog” has a few meanings, primarily:
1) to beat or whip into shape, or
2) to promote or publicize aggressively.
There are over 30,000 albums released each year on major and independent labels. That's not even counting compilations and reissues which easily doubles the figure. With all the new music and rapidly-expanding media coverage out there to navigate through, how does one go about making an informed decision on what to listen to?
FlogMusic.com was created for consumers interested in discovering new music. By categorizing music accordingly into different genres with respect to chart positioning and album release date* (all based on Nielsen/Soundscan as reported by Billboard, except for Indie which is based on a unique system developed by Dusted Magazine) you will have a better idea of:
- What albums are already available.
- What to expect for new releases in the near future.
- The latest news and issues in the music world as reported by the Blog.
- And, finally, what to listen to depending on your interpretation of the overall score according to the Rating System.
That’s right, your interpretation. FlogMusic.com doesn't always agree with the opinions expressed in the quoted blurbs contained on the album pages, but we believe that bringing you links (when available) to reviews from a multitude of sources and breaking them down into a quick, easy to interpret format gives you the power to make a more informed decision on what to check out. This site was built with you, the consumer, in mind. You may agree or disagree with how the overall scores work out - but hopefully you also find a critic, publication, or group of them whose opinions make sense and become an additional resource for discovering more music.
This site was originally launched on April 16, 2006 and the new, much improved version, thanks in part to the good people at W3 Marketing Solutions, re-launched to a much wider audience on September 14, 2007.
